Warning Signs
5 Reasons Your Check Engine Light May Be On
-
Oxygen Sensor Fault
The oxygen sensor — the sensor that measures exhaust gases to regulate how much fuel the engine uses — is one of the most common check engine triggers. A failed sensor does not always affect how the car drives, which is why it is often ignored. But it reduces fuel efficiency and can eventually cause catalytic converter damage.
-
Catalytic Converter Issue
The catalytic converter reduces harmful emissions in your exhaust. When it degrades, the engine computer detects a drop in efficiency and stores a fault code. A failing converter can affect engine performance and fuel economy, and the repair usually gets more expensive the longer it is put off.
-
Mass Airflow Sensor Fault
The mass airflow (MAF) sensor measures the air entering the engine so the computer can calculate the right amount of fuel to inject. When it fails or reads incorrectly, the engine may run rough, hesitate, or lose power. It is a commonly misdiagnosed fault — the code points to the system, not always the specific cause.
-
Spark Plug or Ignition Coil Misfire
A misfire code means one or more cylinders is not firing correctly. This causes rough idling, hesitation under acceleration, and in severe cases, catalytic converter damage if unburnt fuel reaches the converter. A flashing check engine light specifically indicates an active misfire — stop driving and call us immediately.
-
Loose or Damaged Fuel Cap
A loose fuel cap allows fuel vapour to escape the tank, which the EVAP (evaporative emissions) system detects and reports as a fault. It is one of the simplest fixes. However, a fuel cap code should still be confirmed by scan — the same code can be triggered by a more serious EVAP system fault further in the system.
Our Process
How Our Engine Diagnostic Process Works in Mississauga
-
Book and Drop Off
Book online or call (905) 624-4646. When you arrive, tell us the warning light or symptom. The more context you can give, the better.
-
Computerized Diagnostic Scan
We connect your vehicle to our diagnostic equipment and retrieve all stored fault codes across available systems — engine, transmission, ABS, airbag, and emissions at minimum.
-
Technician Analysis
A fault code identifies the system, not always the specific failed part. Our technicians interpret the codes in context of your vehicle’s make, model, history, and symptoms. This step is where experience matters.
-
Plain Language Explanation
We explain what we found in plain language. Not the code number — what it means for your vehicle, what it affects, and what the options are. You leave understanding the problem, not just knowing that one exists.
-
Written Quote Before Any Repair
If repair is needed, you receive a written itemised quote before any work begins. The diagnostic finding and the repair decision are completely separate. You decide what happens next.

We Explain What We Find — In Plain Language
A fault code tells you which system detected a problem. It does not tell you what that means for your vehicle, whether it is urgent, or what your options are. With over 20 years diagnosing vehicles across every make and model, our technicians interpret the code in context and explain it in plain language. Not the code number. What it actually means.
Written Quote Before Any Repair Begins
The diagnostic is one step. The repair is a separate decision. You receive a written itemised quote before any work starts. You understand the problem first. You approve the repair second. Nothing happens until you say so.
Open Until 8PM Weekdays
We are open Monday through Thursday until 8PM, Friday until 8PM. A check engine light does not appear on a schedule. We are here after work so you do not have to wait until the weekend.
